Free Preschool Advent Activities just in time for Christmas!

FREE Preschool Advent Activity: Interactive Advent Wreath & Prayers

I teach preschool at a Catholic school, so Advent is an important part of our year. Accordingly, each classroom has an advent wreath prominently displayed. As a result, we are to say advent prayers in our classrooms. However, I had a hard time finding prayers that are age-appropriate. With this in mind, I used traditional prayers as a framework and wrote my own that are age-appropriate and understandable.

During circle time each day, I will choose one student to “light” the candles for that week. Then, I say the prayer and tack the wreath to the wall where we can see it. Consequently, this addition of daily prayer and candle lighting brings the reason for the season into the beginning of each day. Follow the directions below to make your advent wreath just right!

  • Print wreath and prayer pages double-sided & laminate
  • Print flames & laminate
  • cut flames
  • Put small velcro dots on tips of candles as shown below
  • Place the other side of velcro dots on the back of flames

Preschool Advent Activity: Handprint Keepsake Craft

Another meaningful Advent activity is done in the art center. First, you will need a few supplies:

  • Washable paint in purple, yellow, pink, and green
  • Paint brushes-1 for each color
  • Green glitter
  • Half sheets of white cardstock or construction paper
  • Wet wipes for clean-up or paint emergencies!

After you have all your supplies ready, call students over one at ta time. Next, paint the palm of their hands green. After that, Paint 3 fingers purple and one pink as shown. Then use the tip of one finger to dot a yellow “flame” to the tip of each finger candle. Lastly, finish it off with a sprinkle of green glitter on the green paint to make it festive.

Not only is this craft a great representation of the Advent Wreath, but it is also a wonderful Christmas keepsake for the parents!
