Gingerbread Dramatic Play Ideas: Bakery Props
For a perfect Gingerbread Dramatic Play setup, I went to the Dollar Store. There I found chef’s hats, a Gingerbread man dishtowel, and cookie sheets.
As luck would have it, I found a Melissa & Doug Christmas cookie set at my local TJ Max. Next, I got creative and used aprons from the dress-up bin, and then I printed and cut some cute gingerbread cookies. I already had a toy mixer, so with a bit of luck, you don’t have to buy anything new. As a result, you will find that you can make your dramatic area look fun and inviting with little expense. In fact, with just a few simple props, you’ve got all you need for a festive Gingerbread bakery!
Gingerbread Dramatic Play Ideas: Printables
My Gingerbread Dramatic Play area looks amazing when I add colorful printables full of environmental print and pictures.
Here are a few examples of what I use in my Gingerbread Dramatic Play Bakery.
I love changing my dramatic play center, and I love to create cute and engaging printable signing. So, I created an amazing Gingerbread Bakery Dramatic Play set for my own classroom. It is available in my TPT store. First, the images contain pictures relating to our Gingerbread unit vocabulary. Secondly, the signs show Gingerbread Bakery items in action and ideas for how to play in the center. Last but not least, I make sure the printables I make contain both numbers and environmental print.
Something to keep in mind about setting up a great dramatic play area in your classroom…Keep it simple, and most of all as an invitation to PLAY! The most learning will come from playing and using imaginations. Allow the kids to step into their imaginations and discover what it is like to run an amazing Gingerbread Bakery.
Finally, keep your shop easy to clean up and as easy for the kids to organize as possible. Use labels with clear pictures wherever you can.
You can use my printables, and activities for preschool and kindergarten or create your own. Just have fun with it and make it the best Gingerbread week yet!

Apart from being the most popular free-choice center, dramatic play is where my kiddos seem to learn the most. They learn to share, solve problems, try different roles, and really use their imaginations! Don’t discount the importance of this vital area in your classroom. Play is the main tool of learning at this stage of development, after all. Making an area of this importance even more inviting can have a powerful effect on behavior and social and emotional learning.
