It’s preschool rainforest week! I want to take you into this fun and exciting week where my preschool class learns through play because learning through play is the best way! I’ll show you my sensory bin, writing center, dramatic play, block center, and my activities for all four days this week! I love this theme because it’s the beginning of animals, ocean creatures, bugs, butterflies, and the kids love every theme from this point to the end of the year!
If you teach preschool or Pre-K, one of the BEST things you can do at the end of the year is help your students become more independent. Kindergarten teachers are not just looking for academic skills—they are looking for children who can take care of themselves, follow routines, and confidently do everyday tasks on their own. In this video, I’m sharing simple, real classroom strategies to help your preschool and Pre-K students build independence before they move on to kindergarten. You’ll learn how to: • Encourage kids to hang up their own backpacks • Help students manage their own water bottles and personal items • Teach children to use hand sanitizer and basic self-care routines • Step back during clean-up and daily transitions • Support independence without overwhelming your students I also share the simple prompts I use in my classroom—like asking, “What would you do if Mrs. Lee wasn’t here?”—to gently guide children toward problem-solving and confidence. But one of the most powerful shifts you can make in your preschool or Pre-K classroom is learning how to lead with steady, calm leadership. Young children feed off the emotional state of the adults around them. When teachers become more steady, calm, and confident in their leadership, children naturally begin to regulate their own behavior and follow that tone. In this video, I share practical ways preschool teachers can create a more predictable and steady classroom environment by first focusing on their own leadership and presence. This includes using a calm voice instead of raising your voice, giving concise 3–5 word instructions that preschoolers can actually process, and physically standing strong and steady as the leader of your classroom. You'll also hear simple strategies like beginning the day with calming music, taking a breath before giving instructions, and speaking more softly so children quiet down to listen instead of competing with louder voices in the room. Preschool classrooms should be lively, playful, and full of energy—but they don’t have to feel chaotic or out of control.
