Valentine crafts for preschool can make February days a lot warmer and brighter! Holidays make planning for preschool a little bit easier, and Valentine’s day is no exception! Consequently, I have a lot of tried-and-true crafts that your kiddos will love! With a well-stocked Art Center, your prep time will be little and fun will be abundant!
Valentine Crafts for Preschool: Suncatchers
To begin with, suncatchers are beautiful, easy to make, and the kids love them. All you need is some black construction paper, clear contact paper, and tissue squares in valentine colors. To make it easy, I cut a heart shape out of a piece of black construction paper-leaving the paper whole. Then I cover the heartcut-out with contact paper. The kids place the tissue squares on the sticky side, covering as much of the heart as they can. Then I cut around the heart shape to make a frame. Finally, hang in a window…and you have a beautiful Valentine’s Day decoration! YOu can find another example at prekpages.com.
Squishy Paint Hearts
This craft is beautiful and surprisingly easy to prep! To start with, cut hearts from white cardstock or construction paper. Then swirl red, white, pink, and purple paint on the heart. Then, cover with plastic wrap and let the kids squish and manipulate the paint. The paint will mix and smear. As a result, you will have a work of art! I save these for my kiddos Art Show boards. They are stunning!
Valentine Crafts for Preschool: Coffee Filter Hearts
Just like the Squishy Paint Hearts, this craft is easy to prep. Cut lots of coffee filters into heart shapes. Next, mix red, pink, and purple liquid watercolor in separate cups. Finally, use pipettes or droppers to add the watercolor to the cut filters. In the picture above, the watercolor was a bit too diluted. Keep the colors saturated for a more spectacular heart! Either way, using droppers or pipettes make this a great fine motor activity as well!
Tissue Roll Heart Stampers
In addition to the previous crafts, this one is super low-prep too! All you need is construction paper-I like light blue, toilet tissue rolls bent to make a heart shape stamp, and red paint. To begin with, pour some red paint into a shallow pan. Give each student a piece of paper and a bent tissue roll…and stamp away! These are so simple and sweet, and therefore would make a perfect valentine card if you choose!
Valentine Pouches
Last but not least, every student will need something to hold the many Valentine’s they will receive from their friends. I’ve been teaching preschool for a long time, so consequently, I have tried a lot of different things. My favorite is to have the kids make a Valentine pouch. It is low-prep, easy, and the kids love it because they’ve made it themselves. All you need is 12 x 18 construction paper in valentine colors, markers, stickers (optional), and cut hearts of any colors you choose. First, we fold the construction paper in half and staple each side to make a pouch. Then, allow the kids to decorate with hearts, markers, and stickers-making sure to write their names on the front. Finally…you are ready for your Valentine’s Day party and delivering Valentines!
