This Valentine’s Day craft for preschoolers is so easy. What makes it even better is that it is low-prep and low-mess. Not to mention that the end result is really beautiful!
Valentine’s Day Craft Supplies
First, you need to assemble only 3 things from your art center. All you need is heavy white paper to cut out hearts. I usually use cardstock, but construction paper will work too. Next, choose 3-4 Valentine paint colors. In light of the holiday…red, pink, and purple are best. I also like to add a little white to blend with the red. Finally, you will need some plastic wrap for the mess-free finger painting.
Valentine’s Day Craft Next Steps
After everything is assembled, and hearts have been cut out-it’s time for the fun part. First of all, I recommend you get some squeeze bottles for your paint. This makes the whole process so much easier. One thing I have used are the Dollar Store ketchup and mustard bottles. They work really well. Furthermore, they have an attached lid to keep the paint from drying and clogging.
When the kids come to my center, I give them a heart and ask them what colors they want. In addition, I tell them they have to choose at least 2. Next, I swirl the paint around the heart. Then I cover the entire thing with plastic cling wrap. Finally, the kids get to ‘squish’ the paint around the heart covering all of the white paper.
What I love the most about this part is the kids are amazed by how their hands stay clean! It really is a great sensory experience.
The Final (beautiful) Result
As the plastic wrap is slowly and carefully removed…there are gasps from the kids. What they see is stunning. They have created an absolutely beautiful work of art. This takes Valentine’s day crafts for preschoolers to a new level!
These make an amazing bulletin board for highlighting he kid’s work. The parents always love to see the amazing things their kids create at school. This one is a show-stopper!
Make something beautiful with your class today!
